Ideal New Year Resolutions for designers

  • All work and no play?

In an attempt to excel in the competitive world of designers, an individual may spend his entire time working and improving productivity. While this could help significantly in a professional life, you would not want to be a working machine with no social life.

All the fame and money would seem enough initially but at some point, you will realize that survival is difficult without a social life and it might be too late when you finally realize that.

  • Learning a new skill

Designers usually work for reputable brands and these brands want an even better work every time. With technological advancements, there are several relevant skills that you might not have. Aim to learn at least one new skill that can help you improve the quality of your designing or can allow you to expand your work domains.

  • Exchange information for mutual benefit

A great learning process is when several professionals from a similar field get together to share or discuss information. If you like to keep your skills private, it is advised that you now start exchanging information with other designers to stay updated. Technology changes rapidly and not staying up to date can lead designers out of business.

  • A larger portfolio is attractive

One of your aims as a designer should be to add as much quality work in your portfolio as possible this year. Brands look for experienced designers as they seem to be reliable. A wider portfolio means that you can demonstrate your skills clearly to the businesses.

  • Learn to turn down work

Finally, do not fall for every work you get once you are established. Maintain your self-respect by not letting any company exploit your skills through low pay. It is reasonable to turn down work if your skills and services are not getting respected.
